Conservation and Idaho's Economy: A Statewide Assessment
Conservation is often viewed through the lens of wildlife, open space, and beautiful landscapes. But conservation also plays an important role in supporting local economies, working lands, recreation, and community wellbeing.
Commissioned by the Idaho Coalition of Land Trusts, this statewide economic assessment examines the measurable economic contributions of Idaho's land trusts and the lands they help conserve. The study found that conservation-supported activities—including agriculture, forestry, grazing, tourism, recreation, and land trust operations—generate significant economic activity, support jobs, and contribute to local and state tax revenues.
The report highlights an important truth: protecting the places we love and supporting thriving communities are not competing goals. In Idaho, they go hand in hand.
